The Consort

Welcome to The Consort.

We are a group of ten singers dedicated to singing A Cappella (totally unaccompanied) music, for pleasure for ourselves and others. We sing music from all ages, from the Twelfth Century up to today and in any style with arrangements for three or more voices. Our repertoire covers Sacred Motets, Madrigals, Folk songs, Humourous songs, songs of Love and Anguish, songs from the Twenties and Thirties, and songs from the hit parade, to name but a few. The list seems endless.

We started out singing with the Damon Singers, a small choir based in Chesham, Bucks. In the early 1980's four of us decided to enter a quartet in a local music competition and we found we really liked singing with one voice to a part like that.

Although it is a bit like singing without a safety net - nobody to fall back on if you make a mistake - it really improves concentration, and you begin to sing in a slightly different way. You all listen to the other singers more closely, watching and interacting with them all the time and working together to make great harmony. That makes singing together a really enjoyable experience!

We obviously like that because have been together since then - about twenty five years - and we now enjoy a full programme of concerts and engagements such as Weddings or Fund Raising events, or After Dinner entertainment and themed evenings. We tailor our programme for each event, so why not contact us when you need music with a difference.
